Grapat is a family-run business founded in 2015 by Casiana and Jordi who design and handcraft the toys in the Pyrenean mountains of Catalonia, Spain. Inspired by the natural beauty of their daughter's free and creative play, this family project ignited their passion to produce simple toys and materials without structured manuals that encourage open-ended and imaginative play. They believe that this freedom allows children to explore, invent and discover more from their enriched play experience.
Grapat toys are made using natural materials sourced locally to their Catalunian home. It is made following traditional processes, in the old way, with thick soft raw materials, natural dyes which let the wood veins be seen and vibrant coloured waxes and oils that slightly shine. The products are painted by hand, homemade, surrounded by land, fire, rivers and many children nearby, who inspire them daily. Their production takes time as their main priority is the whole process, from the origin of each of the materials they use to, and most importantly, the working conditions of all the persons involved, from supplier employees down to all the persons involved in their organisation.
A truly special set of thoughtfully designed, carefully made and sustainably produced materials for our children.
